Offshore Investing
'Isn’t offshore investment just for the very wealthy?'
You can start your own offshore investment with us from as little as £15,000 or £500 per month.
Provided the offshore company you use is based in a highly regulated jurisdiction such as the Isle of Man, Channel Islands, (which are both UK Crown Dependencies) or Dublin, you can be sure that the business is well regulated. These jurisdictions have been thoroughly scrutinised by global monitoring bodies and have received recognition for their strong regulatory controls and investor protection measures. Products sold in the UK also have to meet all the Financial Services Authority’s product and promotion rules.

'Aren’t offshore products complicated and expensive?'
As an investment, offshore bonds are very similar to onshore bonds. The main difference is the way in which they are taxed. Charges can be slightly higher for offshore products, but this difference in cost can be offset by the potential tax advantages. In addition to this, offshore bonds allow you to invest in a wider range of funds and investments under one product "wrapper" which can be easier to administer than a selection of direct investments.

'Aren't offshore investors simply evading tax?'
Tax evasion, wherever it takes place, is illegal. Tax mitigation, on the other hand, is perfectly legal and should form the basis of everyone's financial plans. Investing offshore is one way in which tax efficiency can be maximised.

'Isn’t it more risky?'

Offshore bonds generally give access to a wider range of investments including some high risk and potentially high reward areas if you want them. However, you can choose which funds your money is invested in, usually with the help of your financial adviser. Offshore bonds also provide access to all the leading UK fund managers and money market funds. You can structure your investment to suit your own attitude to risk as any other bond.

'UK resident investors can't invest offshore, can they?'

Yes they can and many do. The Isle of Man is a chosen financial jurisdiction for many people living in the UK who wish to hold offshore investments.

The value of the investment can go down as well as up and you may not get back as much as you put in.
